Terry Fox Run/Walk - Friday, September 20th
Published on Sep 17, 2019 09:23

Dear Parent/Guardian,

On Friday September 20, 2019 Canadian Martyrs School, will participate in our 17th annual school Terry Fox Run. The Terry Fox walk/run will take place in our school yard and neighbourhood after our assembly on Friday.  All classes will meet in the gym at 9:30am for a spirit assembly and warm up. Students will then proceed out back the school with their respective classes for the Run/Walk. Schools all across Canada will join forces this month to carry on Terry’s legacy to help end cancer.

When Terry began his Run, he filled a jug of water from the Atlantic Ocean with the intention of pouring the water in the Pacific Ocean upon completing his journey, hoping to unite the country for his cause. Unfortunately after 143 days of running Terry’s cancer returned and he was not able to finish his run. It is up to us now to continue his legacy. He began a movement that cannot be stopped and needs your support to be continued.

We have set a modest goal of raising $2.00 per student at Canadian Martyrs. You can either send in a toonie with your child or you can use School Day to donate.  Last year we raised close to $400.00 We are hoping that this year we can exceed our goal and aim to raise over $500. The Terry Fox Foundation has a great reputation, with $.82 cents of every dollar raised goes directly to cancer research. Each student will be given a large sticker to be placed on their shirt that says “TERRY RAN FOR ME I AM RUNNING FOR______________”.  Please have a discussion with your child who he/she will be running for, as the teachers will print the names of those individuals on the student’s sticker. The students will wear these stickers during our school run.

Together we can achieve Terry’s goal; “A world without cancer!”

Thanks,
